An inspiring day with a grand finale at Berns

Organisers of the GRC 2019

After long waiting, months of preparations and high expectations it was finally time to open the doors to GRC Conference 2019 at Filmstaden Sergel in Stockholm. Participants streamed into the central cinema to be a part of the two-day conference presented by IIA Sweden, Compliance Forum, ISACA, and SWERMA.

An agenda full of international speakers

After registration, mingle and a delicious breakfast the participants filled saloon 1 to be welcomed by Elisif Elvinsdotter, compère, and moderator. After a warm welcome, it was time to present the first keynote speaker – the former prime minister of Sweden and chairman of the board of Swedbank: Göran Persson.

Social responsibility was a thoroughgoing theme that Göran Persson strengthened by focusing on the culture within organisations. The role of a board is vital for the entire organisation since it is impossible to expect long term revenue without taking social responsibility. The conference built upon Risks in Focus 2019 and the conference agenda was full of international speakers and participants moved between the saloons to gather knowledge and to be inspired.

From Brexit to Glada Hudik-teatern

Ian Peters, CEO at The IIA UK was present to talk about organisations’ preparedness for Brexit from an internal audit perspective. The confused situation causes paralysis in preparations since there are no clear guidelines to follow. That is not the right way to do it. Ian states that every organisation will be affected in some way and that it is up to each of them to investigate future options and be ready to act upon them.

One of the final presentations of the day was held by Pär Johansson, the founder of Glada Hudik-teatern who evoked strong emotions in the audience by presenting his work for changing the way the world thinks and how it relates to people with intellectual disabilities.

Grand finale at Berns Restaurant and the GRC Profile 2019

The first day of the conference included 24 presentations – a perfect way to prepare for the night’s gala dinner at the magnificent restaurant Berns. At the dinner, participants mingled in the warm atmosphere, ate a well-combined menu from restaurant Berns and talked about who would be the winner of the GRC Profile 2019. The light dimmed and the room was silent – it was time to reveal this year’s GRC Profile. Congratulations to Per Strömberg, Chief Executive for ICA Gruppen to the award.
